Nationally, 51.6% of those learners pass their test at the first attempt. In Swindon the pass rate between January and March 2022: 43.5%.

Where do I begin with Geoff? Geoff was the 3rd instructor I’d had. The first two did not work out for me, with one damaging my confidence and essentially dropping me as a student due to my very poor clutch control. Geoff did not shy away from the challenge. He was calm and methodical with his approach to me. He helped build my confidence and knew very quickly how he wanted to teach me without being patronising. Geoff did many things that the others did not, but one key thing which stuck out for me was that he would keep a written record of what we did every lesson, so when we came to our next lesson, we could analyse what went well and work on things that needed improving. He has tons of resources to hand, including maps of local roads and roundabouts which really come in handy when learning about things such as lane discipline. He also has many handouts which were helpful for revision in between lessons. Not a minute with Geoff is wasted, he was constantly pushing me to improve, even on the last lesson before my test. It’s been a very long journey with Geoff, thanks to all the lockdowns we’ve had to take so many breaks however Geoff is always positive, smiling and friendly. I can have really bad anxiety with driving and Geoff never made me feel like that hindered my ability. He has a really unique quality that he realises your potential before you do and he’ll help you see that. He is patient, kind, accommodating and funny. He never judges and is patient if you ever get stressed. He even offers support after the test which is brilliant that he doesn’t see you as just another student who has passed. I don’t think I’d feel as confident as I do now if I didn’t have Geoff as my instructor.

Geoff is an incredibly understanding, friendly and patient instructor and I really don't think I would have passed my test first time if he wasn't my instructor. Geoff gave me complete confidence in my driving which I had none of when I first started. First of all I would like to say a massive thank you to Geoff, without whom I would not have passed my test, let alone get a clean sheet! I was recommended to use GEMS to learn to drive via work as we sold him his i10. I was very sceptical about learning to drive, because at that time, I was quite happy cycling everywhere. So the first seven plus months of lessons were very few and far between but I slowly got more interested in driving as I was fed up with the weather! Geoff was possibly the best instructor I could learn with, always very calm and patient with me, which was very reassuring to me as I was quite a nervous driver to start with, but that confidence soon grew, as I got to know Geoff as more than just an instructor, the occasional laugh and the random conversations mixed with a calm atmosphere to drive in, which definitely helped me progress. The last 6 months has been the best part though, even though I was confident enough we always found new routes, new little things to challenge me with to help me progress as a driver and thanks to the way in which Geoff explains all the manoeuvres and just general driving made everything seem easier and quicker to understand. All in all, Geoff is an incredible instructor and I will definitely highly recommend him to everyone!

After I had turned 17 my older sister recommended Geoff to me for lessons, I was completely inexperienced in driving and was very excited and nervous about driving. After speaking to Geoff I was considerably happier about driving as he came across very enthusiastic which I had not found in other instructors I had spoken to. From people who I had spoken to, I heard that the first few lessons you don't spend much time behind the wheel, and that the instructors can be quite tedious about it. Geoff however has a way with people that makes them confident and so very soon I was behind the wheel and learning to drive. As far as a first lesson could go I was very happy with it. Geoff's lessons are very well planned out and effective, especially his clutch control lesson which helped me immensely. He is very punctual and friendly and I would recommend him to anyone.

Prior to learning with Geoff, I never had a certain enthusiasm towards driving. But, that quickly changed with the first couple of lessons I received. Geoff is a truly fantastic instructor who not only teaches you the essentials of driving - but also how to think like a driver; and how to approach each scenario correctly, and safely.
Within the first couple of lessons, I began getting more confident behind the wheel. This is mostly due to Geoff's fantastic attitude, and approach to teaching. Because of this, I've learnt many concepts that make driving much more relaxing and enjoyable as a whole.
Geoff also has a wide array of useful and professional resources which proved invaluable towards learning new and complex areas in driving. He always has a ready supply of these, so they can keep the key concept of the lesson in your mind. Geoff also keeps a record of your driving experience which helps set goals. On top of this, you receive a brief and debrief at the start and end of each lesson to help at improving your skills.
Lesson timing and preparation is also another thing Geoff excels at. Throughout my lessons, I had no trouble attaining times which were convenient for me. Geoff even made the effort to take out his personal time to offer lesson times. Furthermore, I had to take a large block of time off learning to drive. When I was able to return to driving, Geoff was excellent at refreshing my memory and rebuilding my confidence on the road.
I cannot recommend Geoff, and GEMS highly enough. Over the course in which I was learning to drive, I consistently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and challenge; which I don't think I would have been able to accomplish without Geoff's fantastic tuition. Thanks to this, I've gone from being someone with absolutely no real driving experience, to a confident driver. I've already recommended him to several friends - and I'm recommending him to you. 10/10.

Learning to drive with Geoff has been an absolute pleasure! When I first started driving, I struggled to keep the car on the right side of the road but Geoff soon changed that. He helped me to develop so many new skills which I will continue to use in my driving career. Unlike many instructors, Geoff teaches you to drive rather than just pass a test which is beneficial as I felt very comfortable going out on the road alone for the first time. First of all I would thank Geoff for helping me pass my theory and practical tests. He was a great help throughout and was always monitoring my progress to tailor the lessons to my particular skills and needs.
Upon my first phone call to Geoff I was clearly nervous. However, Geoff reassured me straight away and explained the process we would be taking and we arranged a date for my first lesson, a date which was both suitable for me and him.
During the first few lessons Geoff was constantly reassuring me throughout. After every lesson he takes time to go through a progress page where he tracks how you are doing and how many lessons you have had. During this time he completes an overview of the lesson and explains what went well and things you can improve on. Never at any point does he say you have done anything wrong, he just explains what you can improve on, even if you make the biggest of mistakes. This progress page was integral to my learning experience as it gave me something to go away and think about over the week between lessons and this helped me prepare for the next lesson.
One thing Geoff does particularly well is help you prepare for your theory test. Even during the early lessons, Geoff feeds you information about hazards on the road and other things to look out for. During this early stage I didn't realise how much of this vital information I was taking in, as it felt we were just having a normal conversation instead of learning. As the lessons progressed Geoff gave me handouts of the various topics we were completing, these were excellent and fully prepared me for my theory test, and they give you key information that are vital to being able to drive.
During the whole process I became very relaxed when talking to Geoff as he is very friendly, incredibly well tempered and was up for a laugh and a joke. This really helped me as I didn't feel stressed when I knew my lessons were coming up, in fact it made me look forward to and enjoy the lessons.
When I came to my practical driving exam, I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be during the test. Geoff fully prepared me for the test, not only in terms of driving ability but he also explained what would happen on test day. Geoff explained how long the test would last for, what I had to do during the test and told me to just enjoy myself and that he was confident I would pass. Over our time together Geoff gave me the vital driving experience, the knowhow and driving ability which made me feel extremely confident. He teaches you when to be cautious and when to take opportunities when driving. If you feel nervous before your test or in the weeks leading up to it then remember, Geoff would not allow you to take the test unless he fully believed you were ready.
To anyone thinking of taking lessons, I cannot recommend Geoff highly enough, he has been excellent. If you are nervous, don't worry you will be fine with Geoff. He is constantly reassuring, gives you all the information required and gives you 100% confidence throughout.
Finally, I would like to say thank you Geoff, not only for helping me get my licence, but for setting me up for life. This is a stepping stone to so many opportunities for me, it is going to help me with my work, help me socially and give me freedom. It certainly is a gateway to adulthood and I feel it has set me up for later life. Thank you.

It's not very often you can find someone who has the passion and commitment for their job role, Geoff does, and he can offer an exceptional and unique brand of driving suited to you, so you can learn to drive safely and with confidence.
My driving at the beginning of the week (intensive course 20hrs) was in my eyes, very poor. Geoff had some serious work to do! By the Friday, the day of my test, I was a little nervous. I then took my test and passed with one minor.

Having begun my UK driving experience, after 25+ years of driving in the US, I was a bit of a nervous wreck on roundabouts, the manual gears not to mention the opposite side of everything I was used to. Learning to drive with Geoff was simply brilliant! He understood my learning style perfectly and was infinitely patient at times, always offering encouragement and advice on how to deal with the incredibly varied situations you deal with on the road. He pushed me quite hard and always encouraged me to aim for perfection, through this some of the lessons are going to stick with me for a very long time. He actively encourages good habits and has made me into a good, competent driver, so much so I passed first time with just one fault!
From my perspective though Geoff's greatest asset is his flexibility. As a professional workaholic having someone who could fit 2 hour lessons in on a weekend, coupled with his willingness to pick me up from work for a drive was amazing as it helped to make learning to drive infinitely easier!

I just want to say what a privilege it was having my driving lessons with Geoff. He is very understanding and was really patient when I made mistakes, I wouldn't of wanted to go with anybody else. As a matter of fact, my wife wants to start driving in the future, and from all the positive driving lessons I've had with Geoff, she is keen to work with him also.

Geoff is a good.... no, great driving instructor. I got referred to him when I got let down by another driving agency and I didn't look back. He's an easy going man with a lot of patience, especially when I went through the trouble of my licence being revoked for 5 months, but I kept him in the loop, and before I knew it, we we're on the road again. He gives easy instructions and is great to get along with. "Take you're time and don't rush, that'll always be in my head Geoff. You're the man, thank you.

Geoff is very, very friendly and cheeky, but that's what makes him brilliant. He is very easy to understand making every new skill very clear. Learning with Geoff was easy, fun and productive. Each lesson I developed on not just my practical skills but my understanding of the road and my car. Helping build my confidence in a good and mature amount, I learnt to take situations on the road into my hands early on, but with correct manoeuvres and good road use. He helped me tackle my least favourite parts of driving, such as the magic round-a-bout and now I do it everyday on my way to college. Geoff has been a very good driving instructor. He is very committed to what he does and wants his student to succeed. He is patient and always tries to give you the good tips. His teaching has been tailored to my needs, all lessons were finished with a debriefing to sum up the goods and bads. This has been very helpful to enhance my skills and pinpoint the effort where it was needed. I have had lessons with two driving schools and I can say that it is Geoff's teaching that enabled me succeeding the second time in my driving test.
